Be An Entertainer

I was just thinking, after I wrote a couple of what I think were amusing comments over at The Infopreneur, about the importance of being an entertainer in your blog content.  If you haven't been there, then you should go.  But not 'til you've read everything here.  Better do it soon, 'cuz there's gonna be a lot of content being added quickly, and you don't want to fall behind.  (That was meant to be amusing. Not the content being added quickly part; that part's true…the don't fall behind part. Just so we're clear.  But back to my thought, which was,"I keep telling people that to be successful, blog content must be entertaining."  I think sometimes people think I mean be entertaining in a comedic sense, but I don't.  I mean it in a general way.  There's a talk radio guy in the L.A. area who I think sums it up nicely.  He always informed callers ahead of time that they could say anything they wanted as long as they were "absolutely fascinating."  Brilliantly put.  It doesn't have to mean funny.  It can be tragic.  It can be informative.  But no matter which way it is, it has to electrify your readers.  You want to find a way to communicate your passion to them.  You want them to learn to share your passion if they don't already.

It isn't necessary to be the greatest literary talent of the twenty first century either.  (Although it helps..heh). It's just necessary to care about what you're talking about.  In the past I've compared what I mean to using the same talents as a stand up comic, or a really good professor.  The point is that both of them use different methods to do it, but they both can grab and hold your attention.  So be an entertainer. If you have something to add to this…

As always, comments are encouraged.
