Random Thoughts In The Dark

It’s the wee hours of the morning, and I’m trying to decide what to write about today.  It’s deliciously quiet around here, except for the refrigerator compressor just having kicked on.  I mean to start a list of blog topics for just such moments as this, but so far I never have.  Little half-formed thoughts run across my mind and just before I can catch them for further examination they duck behind some fold within my brain and hide.  I know they’ll come back out eventually.  They are somewhat reminiscent of cockroaches in their aversion to the light.

I just woke up and this is my favorite part of the day.  It’s dark outside and quiet.  Very quiet.  There is no one else around and it’s just me and my thoughts. skittish little fellows that they are.  The promise of the new day is still a few hours away.  I have already commented on two blog posts.  One was a short throw-away little comment that I meant to be amusing, but it just exposed a mistaken memory that I had.  I went back and corrected it though. The other was longer and I even came up with a turn of phrase that I am proud of, and can’t wait to use again.  You are welcome to use it too.  Here it is.  The next time you are describing someone (or yourself) swearing at something, just remember that they (or you) are not swearing.  They (or you) are actually just using “expletive enhanced commentary.” How cool is that phrase? I should trademark it.

At some point my muse will sneak up behind me and knock on the back of my head with an idea.  At that moment, this post will be ended, and I’ll start writing the new one.  I know she will come soon.  I can hear her rustling around under the couch or somewhere nearby.  I think of the muse as a she, but I am not sure why.  It probably goes back to my childhood and my father reading Greek mythology to me.

Oh, there she is.  I must go now.  I have an article to write.  It will be an analogy.  Golf and blogging.  Two of my favorite things.  In less than an hour there will be another new post.  I think I may use it for a guest post.  I’ll keep you updated.
